DROBO DASHBOARD INSTALL INSTALL

SpiceTime wrote:Assuming I'm not able to verify which Firmware version was in the old DroboPro, should I simply take my chances and install the drives into the replacement DroboPro and hope it's able to read them? Or is there a chance the "new" DroboPro will simply erase the existing data on those discs if it doesn't recognize the Firmware version that made them? When I was unable to find any instructions on restoring a Drobo to Read/Write on the Drobo support site, or anywhere else on the web, I decided not to risk switching it to READ ONLY, on the fear that doing so might turn the DroboPro into a permanently READ ONLY machine.

However, I didn't take that step, only because the instructions Drobo sent me on how to put the Drobo in READ ONLY mode didn't include any instructions on how to restore it back to READ/WRITE if DroboPro was able to handle my data safely. That way, I figured, even if the new DroboPro didn't recognize my existing disc array, it would at least not inadvertently erase them. Interestingly, before I turned the new DroboPro on with the old drives installed, I was tempted to put it into READ ONLY mode as an extra precaution, which is something Drobo support recommended I consider doing. Needless to say, I did an immediate back-up of the DroboPro to a different external drive. I was lucky that the new DroboPro was able to pick up right where the old one left off before it's demise, and all of my data was present and usable. Once I updated the Firmware, I installed the 8 drives into the new unit in exactly the same oder in which they resided in my old DroboPro, and then booted it up and prayed.

When I connected it, the Drobo Dashboard recognized it and prompted me to update the Firmware, which I took to be a good sign. In the event, I was lucky enough to find a used DroboPro that was exactly the same model. Thank you so much for the comprehensive over view of my options. (Is there any way to check without using the Dashboard, which no longer recognizes the old DroboPro, which refuses to mount on my computer.)Īssuming I'm not able to verify which Firmware version was in the old DroboPro, should I simply take my chances and install the drives into the replacement DroboPro and hope it's able to read them? Or is there a chance the "new" DroboPro will simply erase the existing data on those discs if it doesn't recognize the Firmware version that made them? Obviously, I wasn't able to do that on the old DroboPro before it died, and I'm not even sure which version of the firmware was installed. I know that you're ideally supposed to update the DroboPro Firmware to the latest version on both the old DroboPro and the one you're migrating to. My plan now is to find a used DroboPro DRPR1-A and then attempt to migrate my 8 hard drives into this "new" DroboPro by simply re-installing them in the same order they were in in my old DroboPro, and hope the "new" DroboPro is able to read them. Instead, I removed the 8 hard drives and set them aside in the same sequence in which they sat in the DroboPro.

Although I'll happily accept troubleshooting suggestions, I've pretty much given up hope of reviving it.

Hi, My old DroboPro DRPR1-A seems to have given up the ghost-it's fallen into an endless reboot cycle with yellow lights under each of the 8 drive bays.
